We have about 800 cacao trees at MMRF, most of which have begun to bear in the last couple years. About 100 of these are criollo cacao trees, which is the type cultivated by the ancient Maya, and has a white colored bean. (as opposed to burgundy beans, like ordinary cacao)

We hope to post more information on this page soon, but in the meantime, here is a photo of some cacao pods, and a brightly lit cacao tree, and the infamous Benjamin Higbee....
