Why Maya Mountain Research Farm Matters
A regenerative model for land, people, and future generations
For more than three decades, Maya Mountain Research Farm has demonstrated how tropical landscapes can thrive when guided by permaculture and community-driven innovation. By blending ancient knowledge with modern solutions, MMRF continues to inspire farmers, students, and organizations across Belize and beyond.
Beyond the farm, MMRF partners with local villages, NGOs, and educational groups to share skills in renewable energy, sustainable farming, and biodiversity conservation. Each collaboration strengthens food security, supports livelihoods, and builds resilience in the face of climate change.
Food
Security
A diverse agroforestry system supports food security by providing a wide variety of nutrients throughout the year, and a food bank for seasons of exigency.
Biochar is pyrolized biomass where the various gasses are off gassed at high heat, in an oxygen free environment, the gasses are burned, and the carbon left over can be used as a soil amendment.
